You Were Meant to Soar!

Hey Everybody,

This quote gave me life today. It challenges me to be true to who I know I am meant to be.

To not be afraid: to make mistakes, to be a beginner, to worry about what others may think and to try again (and again) when things don’t go as planed.

  • How many situations have I consented to creep when I should have been soaring?

  • How much time has been wasted listening to haters when I had a different idea of what was best for me?

I don’t know all of the answers to the tasks ahead of me but, I am committed to the process and have decided to enjoy the journey.

Spring is here. Let’s take the way of the caterpillar and do the work to become our own beautiful butterfly. I can’t wait to see your wings and hear of your success.

#Motivation Monday - Happy Holidays!

Hello Everyone,

I don’t know about you but the holidays seem to have snuck up on me this year. To look back the year has been a blur and then all the sudden Thanksgiving is gone and we are on to Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa celebration’s.

I come from a large family and Christmas time is always one of music, food, giving back to others and lots of laughter. The official beginning of Christmas season in our household growing up was the playing of the Temptations Christmas album. When mom threw that on…. Oh yeah, Christmas time had arrived.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from to you and yours!

#WisdomWednesday: Missing Dad

Hello everyone,

In November 2017 I lost my father. A thought and idea that no “Daddy’s girl” ever could believe would be a reality. Tears are never far from my eyes when I recall the childhood memories, parties, music, concerts, lessons, lectures and laughter. My father was not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but, supportive of his family, loyal to his friends and down for his children.

I share this quote, as it captures the stage I am presently in…

To Lose someone you love_alter your heart forever.jpg

As I began to see my father age and knew that the end was too close for comfort, I wrote a song entitled ‘Superman’ as a tribute of love.

Take a moment today to tell someone that you love them and appreciate the relationship that you share. Life is precious and very, very short.

Lauryn Hill: Miseducation of Lauryn Hill celebrates 20 years

Life is continued work. It's constant learning. The whole concept of retirement I don't even buy into. We should constantly be working. Maybe not physically working, but we could be spiritually, emotionally working toward bettering ourselves and bettering the lives of others around us.       --Lauryn Hill

Hello everyone,

Can you believe it?  The Miseducation of Lauren Hill will celebrate 20 years this week - whoa! I remember buying the CD and hanging on every word, loving the graphic of Lauren etched into a school desk, I enjoyed every interesting transition happening in the classroom setting, every single song and its own story and then.... I heard the snaps, drum and bass kick in, gentle vocals by D'Angelo and intro to Nothing Ever Matters - you could have pushed me over with a feather.

Now the skies could fall
Not even if my boss should call
The world it seems so very small
'Cause nothin' even matters, at all

See nothin' even matters
See nothin' even matters at all
Nothin' even matters
Nothin' even matters at all

See, I don't need no alcohol
Your love makes me feel ten feet tall
Without it, I'd go through withdrawal
'Cause nothin' even matters at all

Nothin' even matters
Nothin' even matters at all
Nothin' even matters
Nothin' even matters at all

What - who is this woman I thought?  I knew her rap and vocal skills from the Fugees but the wave of warmth and confidence that exude from the song was (and is) a thing of beauty.  So inspirational, heart felt, real and vulnerable.

Released August 25, 1998 The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. In the first week, the CD sold 422,624 copies which broke a record for first-week sales by a female artist. - Go 'head Lauryn!

The hit singles from the album were: "Doo Wop (That Thing)", "Ex-Factor" and "Everything is Everything".

In the years following, drama and controversy surrounded the work. Rolling Stones wrote an interesting article at the 10th anniversary of the CD that share an oral history of Hip Hip with include quotes, lawsuits and challenges that Ms. Hill faced with bringing this album to life.

Despite the challenges, this album is one of my all time favorites.  If you haven't listened to it in awhile, take a seat and drink it in or go see her in concert with a host of artists for the 20th Anniversary Tour  .

Ms. Lauryn Hill, thank you for sharing you life, love and talent in such authentic, raw and unique ways and congratulations on 20 years of the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

#MotivationMonday - When everything seems to be going against you - think about this...

Hello everyone,

"When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it."

When everything seems to go against you.jpg

This quote motivates me to remember that my dreams, goals and work is uniquely mine.  Some folks may not like it, buy in to it or support it but that has got to be ok with me because I believe that it will reach the audience, group or person it is meant to bless, I just need to do my work.

Let's focus this week and let nothing stop us!
