Throwback Thursday - Picture with Stevie Wonder

Just because a man lacks the use of his eyes doesn't mean he lacks vision.   --Stevie Wonder

Hello everyone,

To know me is to know that one of my musical inspirations is Stevie Wonder.  On Sunday, December 10 I had the honor of seeing him perform, encourage and joke for approximately 4 hours at his amazing House Full of Toys event.   The night included live renditions and back stories for two albums: Talking Book and Innervisions.

As I reminisced on the evening, I was filled with mixed emotions because his music was introduced to me by my father who I lost this year.

Searching for happy feelings, I remembered the time that my sister and I had a chance to take a picture with Stevie at an event at the House of Blues, Los Angeles.   Such a nice, gentleman and indeed a happy evening.

What's your favorite Stevie Wonder song?

Deborah Cox plays Rachel Marron in "Bodyguard the Musical"

Hello everyone,

For Mother's Day this year, my sister and I treated my mom to dinner and The Bodyguard Musical at the Pantages Theater.  Deborah Cox stars as Rachel Marron (initially played by Whitney Houston) and is cast perfectly.  She looks stunning, sings like a bird and has great onstage chemistry with all of the actors especially Judson Mills (Bodyguard Frank Farmer) and Jasmin Richardson (Nicki Marron).  The plot of the musical is different from the film in that it weaves the works of Whitney Houston in tribute fashion throughout the story.  The stage set is simple yet well done, the costumes were excellent and the use of video creates a unique element of suspense and drama throughout.

As a performer, vocalist and theater major, I appreciate the body of work that Ms. Cox has delivered and applaud her diversity.  Here is a video of her sharing a few thoughts about the musical and her decisions to take this role.

Should "The Bodyguard" come to your city, I highly recommend that you see it.

Happy Birthday Adele!

Hello Everyone,

On May 5, 1988 in Tottenham, London, England - Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born.  At 29 years old and 11 years in the industry, Adele is a Superstar with 15 Grammy's,  three Guinness World Records, and has been named the UK's richest female musician ever.

And with all of that, when you see her in interviews and in concert (should you be so lucky) she is real, funny, quick witted and down to earth.  I am inspired by the realness, authenticity and compassion in her songs and admire her "take me as I am" spirit.   There is a great article by Mic Network Inc. entitled "The Secret to Adele's Success: She Does What No Other Pop Star Does".

See her Live at Church Studios singing When We Were Young.

Happy 29 Adele!  I look forward to seeing what the future holds.
