#ThrowbackThursday - Back in the Day in Milwaukee

Back in the days when I was young I'm not a kid anymore             But some days I sit and wish I was a kid again

Hey Everyone,

Who remembers Back In the Day by Ahmad?  Wow, great song, great memories and great video.

My cousin and I on an adventure (no doubt) while my Dad was at work. Ahh, to have those days back again.  What is your favorite childhood summer song?

Have a great Thursday.

#Throwback Thursday

Having sisters means you always have back up  --unknown

Hello everyone,

When I saw this quote, I just started shaking my head as I recall all of the funny, crazy, serious, heart wrenching & life saving moments that it rings true.

My sisters were my first and remain my best friends.

Learn to love, celebrate, have mercy on, extend grace, care for one another and forgive each other.

Friday Feeling - New music edition

Hello Everyone!

I am so excited to write this post today.  As you may know, I am releasing new music in August and today my Friday feeling is my brand new song Superman.

Superman is a song that I wrote for my father Vernon, the song “Superman” brings to light the inevitable circumstances of aging parents and how this affects those dearest to us.

April 2017 - Family and friend, celebrating Dad's 70th Birthday

Since this is happening in my life now, I had to write a song about it. My goal was to deliver it in a lighthearted way that translates the sense of the hope and everlasting love that I have for my Dad even though this is a challenging time.

Music heals!  Please take care and take time for those you love.

Thanksgiving: a time for service, family and food!

Hello everyone,

This morning I woke up feeling very nostalgic as I thought about my grandma "Minnie". I think about her often but, especially around the holidays because all holidays included food.   Not just any food, but a wonderful spread of soul food created by granny!

Even though, I live in California now, I grew up in Milwaukee Wisconsin raised in a large family with southern values that extended from Mississippi and Louisiana.  The tribe created by my maternal grandparents (Minnie & Dan) has nine children (5 daughters and 4 sons).  We were not particularly wealthy but, the strength of our family support and richness of our love was and still shines brightly.

As a child, I would go over to my grandparents house every Saturday morning to visit and assist with a variety of tasks.  When it came to preparing  for the thanksgiving event.  My activities included washing greens, grating cheese, wiping chairs and/or searching for table linens. Grandma and I would prepare food for our family gathering but, also make meals that we would then deliver to families and older adults in the neighborhood.  As we'd get to the houses, I would run up to the door to deliver the food and holiday sentiment from our family as grandma would smile and wave from the car.  "Trish", she'd say, "always take time to care about other people, it don't take long to show somebody you care".

Both grandparents have now passed but, I am grateful and thankful to have been taught the lessons of cherishing family and taking time to serve and love others.

How ever you spend your holiday, take a moment to be Thankful and encourage someone that can use a helping hand.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Ciao!
