#MotivationMonday - When everything seems to be going against you - think about this...

Hello everyone,

"When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it."

When everything seems to go against you.jpg

This quote motivates me to remember that my dreams, goals and work is uniquely mine.  Some folks may not like it, buy in to it or support it but that has got to be ok with me because I believe that it will reach the audience, group or person it is meant to bless, I just need to do my work.

Let's focus this week and let nothing stop us!

#MotivationMonday - Be Stubborn About Your Goals

Hello Everyone,

I want to start out this week by encouraging you to be focused.  Be stubborn and flexible all in one.  Get an accountability partner, create a plan and have at it.

As you are working your plan, take a moment to mentor or support someone to help them reach their goals.  If they are stuck, try an unconventional way/solution.

#ThrowbackThursday

"Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant."                         -Robert Louis Stevenson

Hello everyone,

Whenever I have a live performance, I am often reflective of how far I have come. My throwback picture was taken nearly 10 years ago as I was planning for the release of my first CD "Breath of Fresh Air".  It is amazing to me that a picture or song can bring back such a flood of memories, thoughts and emotions.

Seeds that were planted then continue to grow deep roots and reach upward to bear fruit even today.

Let's continue to plant and water my friends, the increase will come.

Having sisters means you always have back up  --unknown

Hello everyone,

When I saw this quote, I just started shaking my head as I recall all of the funny, crazy, serious, heart wrenching & life saving moments that it rings true.

Career and Passion come together.jpg

Hello Everyone,

Over the past few days I have really been thinking about this and feel very fortunate that my 9 - 5 rather 8-6 has strong components of community service, philanthropy and meeting the needs of others.  Recently at a Scholarship awards, I had the honor to perform with Harvey Estrada and his Ensemble from Compton College.

What about you???...Are you doing what you love?  If not, take time to consider how you can coordinate your passion and your career.

How are you combining your career with your passion?

Ciao,

Happy Mother's Day

To the world, you are a mother. To our family, you are the world.

Hello everyone,

I am so excited that this weekend is Mother's Day, an opportunity to treat, encourage and remember the mothers and mother figures in our lives.

Being the oldest of 5 children, I have a special, fun and unique relationship with my mom Lois.  Coming from a large family in Milwaukee herself, my mom instilled faith, family and fashion into each of her children along with the many cousins and friends that found a way to sleepover on any given evening.

To celebrate and honor cool, fun and hip moms like mine, here is my Mother's Day playlist:

1. Song for Mama by Boys II Men

2. I'll Always Love My Mama by the Intruders

3. Dear Mama by 2 Pac

4. Brick house by the Commodores

5. Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler

6. Bad Mama Jama by Carl Carlton

7. Outstanding by the Gap Band

8. My Girl by the Temptations

Happy Mother's Day to all of the wonderful mothers, aunties, godmothers, grandmothers, sisters, big mommas, m'dears and a special Mother's to my Mommy - Ms. Pokei!  I love you

Throwback Thursday - Picture with Stevie Wonder

Just because a man lacks the use of his eyes doesn't mean he lacks vision.   --Stevie Wonder

Hello everyone,

To know me is to know that one of my musical inspirations is Stevie Wonder.  On Sunday, December 10 I had the honor of seeing him perform, encourage and joke for approximately 4 hours at his amazing House Full of Toys event.   The night included live renditions and back stories for two albums: Talking Book and Innervisions.

As I reminisced on the evening, I was filled with mixed emotions because his music was introduced to me by my father who I lost this year.

Searching for happy feelings, I remembered the time that my sister and I had a chance to take a picture with Stevie at an event at the House of Blues, Los Angeles.   Such a nice, gentleman and indeed a happy evening.

What's your favorite Stevie Wonder song?

Ciao!
