Beastie Boys: Debut album Licensed to Ill celebrates 30 years
Happy Anniversary to the Beastie Boys! Can you believe it?! Licensed to Ill, the groundbreaking debut album of the rap group the Beastie Boys turned 30 this November.
Who remembers the days of recording a song several times in a row on a cassette tape so that they didn't have to rewind their "jam"? For me that jam was Paul Revere by the Beastie Boys.
Notes on the album:
- On November 15, 1986 the Beasties Boys dropped the Licensed to Ill album, it became the first rap album to top the Billboard album chart
- On February 2, 1987 the album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America
- On March 4, 2015 Licensed to Ill certified Diamond, selling more than 10 million copies
